Véronique Piron, flutist, shakuhachi master-performer (”Shihan” licence from Yokoyama Katsuya, Japan), licensed Conservatorium teacher for traditional music (”Certificat d’Aptitude”, France)
Finistère, Bretagne
Véronique Piron has dedicated her life since early 1990’s to the shakuhachi, the emblematic bamboo flute of Japan. In 2006 she committed in the creation of the European Shakuhachi Society, spreading and teaching the instrument in Europe and France. From tradition to creation, she works with many Japanese and occidental artists. She is regularly invited to the World and European Shakuhachi Festivals, has been produced in many famous places and recorded several CD’s. One of her most significant engagements as a Japanese bamboo flute live performer and composer: ”Ex-Anima”, a creation about Breath with horses of famous Equestrian Theater Zingaro, for an intensive tour in France (2017-2019). Simplicity, sobriety, deepness, quietness are the qualities of the shakuhachi, a simple piece of bamboo with 5 holes, and its music linked to the history of zen Buddhism in Japan. The original traditional pieces, ”honkyoku”, in a slow and meditative style, based on the rhythm of the breath and its extension without any rhythmical pulsation, need a consequent breath work: volume, length, power. This is what brought Véronique Piron to develop a wide range of breathing techniques which she introduces in her teaching and bringing her further; starting with the development of the breath, coming back to its natural pace and connecting with its healing power. This is where she met with Breath-Body-Mind.
