Velma L. Cobb became Director of the Lander Center for Educational Research in the Touro College Graduate School of Education in 2016. She also teaches in the School Counseling program in the Graduate School of Education. The Lander Center supports learning from practice for both college faculty and teachers, administrators and other professionals in PreK-12 educational settings. Prior to that, she served as the Director of the Equity Assistance Center (EAC), one of ten funded by the US Department of Education, 2008 - 2016. She is a former elementary teacher, reading specialist (PreK - 12), and has worked in various roles as an educational leader in public education and not-for-profit organizations serving children and youth. She approaches her work by incorporating culturally responsive-sustaining practices, social and emotional intelligence, mindfulness and other contemplative practices, and positive psychology methodologies with an equity and anti-bias lens. Velma is a certified coach; a licensed Bigger Game© trainer; and a Leadership Circle Profile (LCP)© and LCP Culture Survey© 360 assessment practitioner. She is a Meta-Coach with the Daniel Goleman Emotional Intelligence Coaching Certification Program and a CARE (Cultivating Awareness and Resilience in Educators) certified facilitator. She is a Qualified Administrator for the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) and the Conflict Styles Inventory (CSI). Velma invites collaborative partnerships in exploring possibilities for new insights, building creative and innovative teams, and cultivating inclusive, intentional and compassionate work cultures.
